Tractor Trailer Rollover I-395NB On-Ramp at Exit 5. - 7/31/05
On July 31, 2005 at approximately 18:30 hrs, The Town of Oxford Police
and Fire Departments responded to a report of a Tractor Trailer Rollover
accident on the On-Ramp to I-395 NB at Exit 5, Depot Rd. Upon arrival, Oxford
Police found a heavily damaged Tractor on its side with its 40,000+ pound fully
loaded trailer toppled as well. The Operator was trapped inside with serious
injuries. A quick determination was made by the Oxford Fire Department that
assistance would be needed both for treating and extricating with patient.
Within minutes of arrival, UMass LifeFlight was called and landed a short
distance from the scene. Webster Rescue was called to the scene to assist with
what was quickly determined to be a difficult extrication. Crews also responded
from Auburn, Leicester, and Dudley to assist both at the scene and provide
coverage for any other calls that may come in to Oxford Dispatch. Following an
extensive and extended extrication which included the use of lift air bags,
several hydraulic tools, several electric tools, and various hand tools, the
patient was successfully extricated and transported via Oxford EMS along with
LifeFlight technicians to be treated for serious injuries.
